Dimitar Berbatov was voted Bulgaria’s Man of the Year on Thursday, in an annual competition organised by the national Darik radio. The 28-year-old Bulgarian national team captain was awarded the title at an offical ceremony in Sofia, after beating Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and Bulgarian world amateur boxing champion Detelin Dalakliev.
“Man of the Year” is one of Bulgaria’s most prestigious competitions. It officially began with 500 journalists from all over the country receiving questionnaires to nominate their top three choices for 2008.
Dimitar Berbatov became goalscorer N1 in the hisory of Bulgarian national team. Now the captain of the team has 48 international goals. Berbatov scored two goals in a friendly match against Malta that Bulgaria won 4-1.
Fans voted Dimitar Berbatov for the Uniteds’ player of the month (October).
Berbatov garnered 50% of almost 3000 votes. He was instrumental in Manchester United‘s successes last month, scoring a few crucial and spectacular acrobatic goals.
